Get to Know DH Ambassador Mollie Mayfield

Mollie Mayfield’s world was rocked just a year ago when her family received the news that her grandmother had six months to live due to the progression of her pancreatic cancer. Seeing the strength of her “Gee,” as she fondly calls her, has given her the strength to use her platform to raise awareness for this horrible disease. The 22-year-old SMU graduate is a force to be reckoned with, and we’re proud to have her voice.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO “DECLARE HOPE”?

“To not give up and to keep fighting no matter what. During the four months, from my Gee receiving the news to her passing, her heart stopped five times and she didn't eat for weeks. She put up a huge fight during those months, and I want to continue to fight for her today.”

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A DECLARE HOPE AMBASSADOR?

“I want to be able to talk about pancreatic cancer comfortably with others. When I ran the PanCan 5K back in November, people donated and told their stories about pancreatic cancer. It made me realize not a lot of people can/want to talk about this deadly cancer!”
